The Chinese Education Connection’s primary mission is to develop global awareness and abilities among educators. Since 2011 CEC has been hosting groups of Chinese principals to present the American system of public and private education to them. Invariably, the educators’ eyes are opened about the comprehensiveness and creativity of American schools. They are astounded by the extensive after-school programs, the elaborate physical facilities, and the wide variety of academic disciplines offered to American students.
Since CEC started bringing Chinese educators to Indiana we have had a variety of groups including high school principals, special education principals, middle school principals, and even professors of agriculture. Among their activities, groups attend classes, after-school athletic and music practices, and watch students board the school buses at dismissal. CEC also arranges for experts in the principals’ levels or fields to deliver lectures at our location in Indianapolis. During school visits, the host principal or superintendent will give a talk on the school’s mission and philosophy and other unique attributes to the school or district.
In 2016 CEC provided professional development for middle school principals (twice), early childhood educators, elementary principals, agriculture professors, special educators, and high school educators interested in guidance counseling.
