The Chinese Education Connection (CEC) organizes groups of principals and superintendents and other school and district leaders for study trips to China. Far from vacations, these journeys are undertaken for the purpose of the professional development of the participants. Study and planning prior to the trip and journaling, public speaking, and meetings with Chinese peers are all part of the experience.
CEC professional development trips include presentations at conferences for Chinese educators. Our relationship with the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education enables us to schedule meetings on a variety of topics. Subjects presented in the past have included high school structure and governance, the U.S. college admissions process, special education, and district financing. In 2013 Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, presided at one of these conferences in Huzhou, not far from Shanghai. She was joined by seven superintendents from across the state.
Study trips aren't all work. Cultural excursions to sites like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven are included in our trip packages. Visits to top schools, universities, and even rural schools are also arranged for the edification of the travelers. Perhaps best of all, the educators who travel with CEC form bonds and friendships that can last an entire career. Interested? The next Leadership Trip is tentatively scheduled for March of 2017.
